Blackie at Easter-small
Current Conditions

During the October timeframe, Blackie had problems with a skin allergy and he licked off a lot of his fur in the lower abdomen and the sides of his rear flanks. We had him on chlorpheniramine for a couple of months and he has stopped licking for the most part and his fur is starting to come back.

On December 22nd, Blackie developed a fever and pretty much stopped eating. He had something like this about 4 years ago, but blood and urine tests didn't reveal anything, so they just gave him fluids to cool him down. This time though, his temperature was 104.7, which is high enough to be a cause of concern. They did full blood and urine tests, plus X-rays. The blood and urine tests were fine (along with FeLV, FIV, and fungal tests). However the X-rays showed he had what is known as miliary nodules on his lungs. They suspect these are allergy related and not some sort of cancer, but can't rule that out yet. He was given an anti-inflammatory and fluids to bring his temperature down and was put on Fenbendazole (kills parasites like lung worms, etc.) and Baytril. As he also lost about a half pound, the vets were concerned about hepatic lipidosis so we had him on a low dose of cyproheptadine for a couple of days to perk his appetite up, but he is eating fine now so it was discontinued.
